Nefeli Charvalia is a PhD Researcher in the Department of History at the European University Institute. She holds a bachelor’s degree in History and Archaeology from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and a master's degree in European History from Sorbonne University (Paris IV). In her master’s thesis she studied Greece’s accession to the European Economic Community (EEC) during the 1980s. Her research interests include modern Greek and Arab history, with a particular focus on the political and social developments of the 1970s and 1980s, as well as history of migration and diasporic networks in the 20th century. In her thesis she examines patterns of migration and diaspora formation across the Eastern Mediterranean, focusing on networks linking Lebanon, Greece and Cyprus.
