Young girl holding her dolls

The photograph was taken in June 1961 in Alexandria. The Andreadou family had decided to leave Egypt, after Nikolaos Andreadis’s decision to resign from his job as an accountant at the company “The Egyptian Cotton & Trading Co” and emigrate to Athens in April 1962. His employer, K. Salvagos, had arranged for Andreadis to find a position at Olympic Airways. A few months after her husband’s departure, Anna Eleftheriou packed their belongings and traveled with their two daughters to Athens on July 25, 1961. The photograph depicts Maria Andreadou at a young age, crying while holding the dolls she had to leave behind.
