Welcome to ELIAM

The Greek Historical Archives of the Eastern Mediterranean (ELIAM) is a non-profit civil organization founded in September 2022 by Visual anthropologist Eirini Chryssocheri and historians Angelos Dalachanis and Alexandros Kitroeff. ELIAM’s central concern is to highlight the multicultural dimension of the region through a special focus on the everyday life of its Greek inhabitants.

ELIAM has a threefold objective: to digitize historical documents relating to the Greek presence in the Eastern Mediterranean especially during the 19th and 20th centuries; to present to the users of the website (www.eliam.gr) digitized material, which includes documents such as private correspondence, photos, films and, thirdly, to promote and disseminate knowledge about the Greek experience in the Eastern Mediterranean to the scholarly community and the general public through the preparation of academic studies, the publication of articles, and the organization of conferences, lectures, exhibitions and other cultural events.
